The arch, traditionally regarded as an icon of Dragomilovo, was originally installed on Tverskaya Zastava Square. The grand opening of the original monument, which was designed by Osip Bove, took place in 1834, and in 1899 the arch welcomed the first electric train in Moscow. Under the Moscow Reconstruction Master Plan, the grand architectural landmark 'relocated' to Kutuzovsky Prospect, where it was meticulously restored under the supervision of the architect Vladimir Libson. Since then the arch has been an honourable reminder of the Russian victory in the Patriotic War of 1812.
